September Newsletter
Dear Walker Families,
We are off to a wonderful start this school year! Students are quickly settling into routines and learning what it means to be part of our school community.
Thank you for helping us keep the drop-off and pick-up times running smoothly. When you enter either the main or kindergarten drop-off loops, please remember to pull all the way forward and stay in your vehicle. This small step makes a big difference in keeping traffic moving safely on Newburg Road.
At Walker, we want you to feel like a true part of our school family. There are many ways to get involved—whether it’s attending Lunch in the Courtyard, celebrating Student of the Month, joining in on school events, or volunteering your time. Students especially love seeing their family members helping out in the classroom, at special events, or on field trips.
We also invite you to join our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). This group helps plan fun activities and fundraisers that directly support our school. Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 30th, at 6:30 p.m. in the FMS cafeteria—we’d love to see you there!
Another great way to be involved is by serving on our School Site Council (SSC). The SSC plays an important role in making decisions about federal funding (Title I, CSI, etc.) and in reviewing and updating our School Plan for Student Achievement each year. If you are interested in joining, please reach out to your child’s teacher or the school office.
Here are some upcoming events for your calendar:
Superhero Spirit Day – Sept. 12th
Lunch in the Courtyard – Sept. 18th
Digital Citizenship Week – Sept. 22nd–26th
Scholastic Book Fair – Sept. 22nd–26th
Student of the Month Awards – Sept. 26th & 27th
PTO Meeting – Sept. 30th
Picture Day – Oct. 2nd
We are so glad to have you as part of the Walker and Fortuna Elementary family. Thank you for all the ways you support our students, staff, and school community. We’re looking forward to a great year together!
