A Message From our Principal

Dear Walker Families:

Thank you for the great start to the school year, and for your cooperation regarding the inconvenience of the construction work. With the kindergarten drop-off/pick-up area being unavailable at the moment, we have even more need to keep the main drop-off area safe. We have more traffic using that space. When you enter the drop-off loop, please pull all the way forward and please do not park or exit your vehicle there. If you wish to walk your child into school, you will need to find a parking spot nearby.

Safety is the number one priority here at Walker Elementary. The staff truly cares about your child’s well-being. We aim to keep children safe physically and feeling
safe and comfortable at school. Consistent school attendance is essential for your child’s well-being, academic progress, and social development. Great attendance helps teachers and support staff build strong relationships and connections with the students. In addition, communicating with you, the family, plays a huge role in your child’s success at school. Thank you for signing up on Dojo and ParentSquare and checking them regularly. We want to make sure that everyone
feels part of the team.

Our school takes the responsibility of maintaining your child’s academic progress seriously. With that in mind, we are using some new curriculum this year. Fundations and Heggerty for Language Arts, enVision Math, and a new assessment system called mClass. The teachers are excited to try out the new
materials, and to get the students excited about learning.

But if you really want to see excited teachers, offer to volunteer in the classroom! There is nothing more rewarding than helping students grow and learn. Why should teachers have all the fun? Come on in and sign up to be a volunteer. There are all sorts of ways to help such as getting involved in the Parent Teacher
Organization, the School Site Council, and EL Family Nights as well. Lunch in the Courtyard dates have been set for the year as follows:

  • Thursday, October 19
  • Thursday, December 7
  • Thursday, February 8
  • Thursday, April 11
  • Thursday, June 6

We are trying to give you enough heads up so that you are able to join us!
Thank you, as always, for your support and team effort in making school a positive experience for all students.

Sincerely,
Helen Nelson, Walker Principal
