Dear Walker Families,

It’s great to be back! I hope you enjoyed a relaxing time with family and friends.

We managed to pack in a wealth of holiday events in December which kept us all busy. Thank you for attending the Winter Breakfast, and the concert at the River Lodge. The students had fun at the Quack and Wabbit puppet performance and at the holiday sing-along with live musicians for accompaniment - yay Mr. Coyle, Mr. Harder, and Ms. Torres! Thank you to all staff and volunteers who help at these events and make special memories for our students.

Looking ahead to this month, we have some calendar items to note:

  • The FESD Board Meeting is this Thursday, January 9th, at 6:30 p.m. in the FMS cafeteria.

  • Blue and Gold Dress-Up Day is Friday, January 17th.

  • There will be no school on Monday, January 20th, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

  • TK/K students are going on a field trip to see the Peking Acrobats on Wednesday, January 22nd.

  • The Walker School Site Council, LCAP Stakeholder, and ELAC meeting will be on Wednesday, January 22nd at 3:15 p.m. in room 11.

  • Glasses2Classes will be coming to our school site on Thursday, January 23rd.

  • The FESD PTO meeting will be on Tuesday, January 28th, at 6:30 p.m. in the FMS Cafeteria.

  • The 100th Day of School will be on January 29th.

January is a great time to kickstart new and improved learning habits and do what we can to boost motivation and interest. Here at school, we will continue to recognize two Students of the Month in each classroom and to recognize great work habits classwide with the chance to earn a class party or fun privilege. We also offer Walker Star Bucks to students showing our star character traits which can be redeemed at the Star Bucks store or in the assembly raffles.

Showing up to school every day is key to student motivation and learning. Thank you for helping your child succeed in this area - our attendance numbers are greatly improved overall.

Happy New Year, and here’s to a wonderful 2025!

Sincerely,

Helen Nelson
